The perfect stay in
L’Isle sur la Sorgue.

Brought to you by Balma Antiques, the apartment is located in the liveliest part of the village, directly overlooking the main canal of the Sorgue. It has a splendid view of the town park (Parc Gautier) and its 19th-century eclectic-style (1884) Chateau (Chateau Giraud). It is a maison de village built in the mid-19th century in stone and finished in lime. Consisting of two floors, each intended for one family, our apartment is on the second floor, which is accessed by a wooden door on the canal on the ground floor. It is surrounded by restaurants and clubs that give it a cheerful and lively as well as very family-friendly atmosphere.

Apartment & Services

The house is extremely cozy. It is developed on one floor and features, in the riverside part, a living room and a corner dedicated to the kitchen. The naturalness of everyday life flows through the large main window of the living room. Everything is framed by the beautiful trees of the pier, the canal flowing with its ducks, and the park, with its chateau clearly visible from the apartment. On the inner courtyard, and in the quietest part of the apartment, is the bedroom and bathroom, both with windows and overlooking the inner garden. The room has a poetic overlook, but allows for discretion and privacy.

Saying good morning to you will be the chirping of birds and the tolling of bells. The house is very bright and has been finely designed as a conservative renovation project. Our style and philosophy are used as the common thread of the art of living: reclaimed materials, essentiality, color arrangements that recall the characteristics of the area. Reclaimed materials have been meticulously chosen: from the marble tubs found in the bathrooms and kitchen, to the parquet flooring, designed and made especially for us by artisans using ancient oak beams.

The furnishings are characterized by the essentiality of the forms and are all carefully chosen pieces: furniture, vases and various details. The color choice of materials and furnishings reflects the way we relate to the land, to Provence: keeping the nuances and highlighting the affinities.

Owners

We’re Claudia and Francesco, the founders and owners of Balma Antiques, and we seek beauty in ancient objects, especially French antiques. Balma Antiques is born from the union of our personalities and our way to look at the world and capture its beauty. On one side, good taste and creativity; on the other one, rationality and knowledge. Living across Italy and France, we’re antique-dealers with a boutique in Tuscany countryside and we buy what we like around France, Spain and northern Europe.

L’Isle Sur la Sorgue

Surrounded by canals, L’Isle sur la Sorgue, nicknamed the Venice of Provence, is an enchanting village crisscrossed by several canals, dotted with old wooden waterwheels covered in moss, which once numbered more than 70. It is one of the most charming villages in the area, imbued with the atmosphere that only the most authentic Provence can provide. Located between Avignon, Carpentras and the northern Luberon valley, this town is known for its river, the Sorgue and its canals, but also for its idyllic living environment. Lively streets, Provençal flavors and scents, a Mediterranean climate, and welcoming inhabitants are the hallmarks of this town that has managed to preserve a spirit of yesteryear.

The French capital of flea markets, antiques and design, L’Isle sur la Sorgue has been attracting antique dealers, junk dealers, artisans and artists for 60 years. The town’s six old villages bring together some 500 exhibitors year-round. The large Easter and summer fairs, highlights of the local calendar, attract up to 10,000 visitors from around the world. Halfway between Cavaillon and Carpentras, between Avignon and Apt, L’Isle sur la Sorgue enjoys a privileged geographical location, and is part of the Luberon where the most famous villages of Gordes, Lourmarin and Bonnieux are located, as well as little gems like Goult, Oppede and Menerbres. Also suggestive are the ochre quarries and the village of Roussillon, as well as the more famous Sault, capital of lavender. A short distance from Aix-en-Provence, L’Isle sur la Sorgue is also strategic for visiting lower Provence (Saint Remy de Provence, Les Baux de Provence) as far as the Camargue or delving as far as the Giant, Mont Ventoux. Not far from the Roman atmospheres of Arles, you can easily (45 minutes by car) get to Marseilles, an excellent center of contemporary art and the starting point for visiting the Calanques national park, or take a hike through the 16th-century alleyways of Lyon (2 hours by car).

Airport & Train

The nearest airport is Marseille-Provence (50 min. by car). There are trains from Marseille-Provence to L’Isle sur la Sorgue with SNCF and TER trains in 1h20min. L’Isle sur la Sorgue train station is 500m from the apartment and 5min on foot.
